Featuring over 10 different characters (with hopefully more to come), each fulfilling different roles with various abilities, players will be able to test out and try the different party combinations. Although not all available at the start and limited to smaller parties (for now), players will get to recruit more characters as they progress. Moreover, players will discover which cards, skills, and mechanics best synergize with one another. Although people can include more members in the parties, these builds will primarily focus on the main picks that will form the basis for an effective party. As there is no true ‘best party’, these are just some combinations that can get players started and should experience.
5 Catherine, Naran, Bertram
Absolute beginners should consider this trio to bust down all enemies within the first act. Starting with Catherine the Cleric, players will be able to use her mace and flails to annihilate the enemy. Additionally, she can cast burn damage and more importantly, heal allies and herself. With the ability to deal damage, cast various buffs, and heal, Catherine is an ideal first character to have in order to get immersed into Gordian Quest’s fantasy world.
Naran the Bard synergizes with Catherine’s DND-like cleric abilities as the former is armed with multiple buffs, AOE abilities, and improving defense. Naran will eventually become a defensive powerhouse and will be useful to other compositions should the player wish to mix things up a little. This makes the bard an exceptional support character especially when players get a hold of Bertram. Bertram is a solid Ranger capable of doing good ranged DPS. His Far Shot ability can do exceptional damage whilst his various Turrets can inflict different types of damage onto the enemy. Bertram can also use his ability to Mount Turret to further increase damage.
4 Lucius, Catherine, Bertram
This party is another classic combination of Tank, DPS, and Utility. In this team, Lucius takes over the role of the tank and will focus on the Strength stat. Most of Lucius’ defense skills scale from the Strength stat and will become stronger as he levels up and is developed. Bertram remains the dexterity-focused damage dealer with his deadeye build.

The only major change is developing Catherine’s Intelligence and having her perform as the Utility/Support. Catherine is still tanky and can take on damage whilst debuffing and healing the rest of the party. Players should be sure to change her shield blocks into Intelligence cards to fully make use of her skills in this composition.
3 Catherine, Ida, Kudo
In this combination, Catherine returns as the tanky Cleric that can heal herself and her allies. Supporting Catherine is Ida, the Druid who can fill in a variety of roles. However, in this build, Ida will best serve as an animal summoner who can become a beastmaster by transforming into a powerful bear. Gamers will need to focus on the Primal and Animal Kinship build to make her exceptionally powerful. Although, players can opt to just focus on Animal Kinship to strengthen the number and power of Ida’s animal companions.
This is important as Kudo the Warlock will deliver Damage over time from the back. This character excels at inflicting bleeding damage which in turn increases the value of physical damage inflicted on enemies. This means that Kudo is an excellent companion to any party member that can inflict large amounts of physical damage. With Ida’s summons and Catherine’s ability to support the group and whack enemies, this is one combination no enemy wants to mess with.
2 Lucius, Naran, Alphonse
This team has Lucius tanking and evoking his defensive abilities supported by Naran debuffing enemies and charging up everyone else’s critical damage output. This party build is excellent at taking out single powerful targets whilst maintaining good overall defensive ability.

By focusing on Alphonse’s Assassination build, Gordian Quest players will have no problem dealing with high-value targets and eventually working down the totem pole. Alternatively, players can also make use of Alphonse’s Sabotage pathway, allowing him to place some traps to hinder foes from making a move on the party. However, this build works best by spamming Alphonse’s Hidden Blade and Celerity abilities as in time, he will be able to take out powerful enemies with just one strike.
1 Catherine, Ida, Alphonse
Similar to the build above, the composition changes things up a bit with Catherine being able to tank and heal the rest of the party whilst Ida slowly unveils her retinue of wolves and werewolves. As the battle moves towards the middle or endgame, Alphonse will shine by being the glass cannon that can take out even the most difficult of enemies. This will be a running theme as players continue the storyline and become immersed in the roguelite’s lore.
With so many animal allies deployed (if players go for Ida’s full summon build), Alphonse should remain relatively safe and continue to dish out damage. Catherine will also keep Alphonse alive with those copious heals.
