Call Recording in Google’s Phone App
In case you don’t already know, there’s an option in Google’s Phone app to let you record your phone calls. You might not see this option if you live in a country where recording phone calls is prohibited.
However, you will see the option if you live somewhere where the government allows phone calls to be recorded.
Automatic Call Recording in Google Phone
According to a report by XDA Developers, Google’s Phone app now allows users to automatically record calls from unknown numbers on their phones. This means if someone who isn’t in your contacts list calls you, their call will be automatically recorded.
How to Enable Automatic Call Recording in Google Phone
Google has added the automatic call feature as an option, which means you can turn it on and off as you wish. The feature is located in the Phone’s settings menu.
To use it, you need to turn on the feature once and it’ll continue to record all your future calls.
To turn the feature on, head into Phone’s settings menu and tap Call recording. Here, toggle on the Numbers not in your contacts option under the Always Record section. Tap Always record in the prompt that appears to enable the feature.
How Automatic Call Recording Works
When you get a call from someone who is not in your contacts list, the Phone app will record that call. The app will notify both you and the caller that the call is being recorded. When the recording has finished, it will alert both you and the caller that the call is no longer being recorded.
Google Phone needs to do that to comply with various laws in various countries.
What if You Don’t Find the Automatic Call Record Option?
Google seems to be gradually rolling out this feature as not all Phone users have access to this feature. You’ll need to wait if you don’t see the option in your app right away.
If you don’t use Google Phone, you can still record calls on your phones. You can record calls on Samsung devices using the native Samsung feature. On non-Samsung phones, you have several Android apps to record phone calls.

Google gives you one more reason to make Phone the default dialer on your Android device. With this new recording feature, you will be able to record calls from all those phone numbers that you do not recognize.
